Lady Bulldogs Split in Opening of PSC Classic
Little Rock, Ark. - After a heartbreaking five set loss to conference foe Edward Waters to open the season, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back to even their conference slate at 1-1 with straight sets victory over Philander Smith in the opening day of the PSC Classic.
In the first game of the PSC Classic, the Lady Bulldogs faced off against Lyon College. The Lady Bulldogs looked very impressive early in the first set, as it was a dog fight. But Lyon rallied back to take set one 25-20. In the second set, the Lady Bulldogs and Lyon battled it out again before Lyon took set two 27-25. With the Lady Bulldogs down 0-2 they didn't want the match to be straight sets. The Lady Bulldogs prevailed in the third set, edging Lyon 25-19 to take the match into a fourth set. In the fourth set, however, Lyon proved to be too much for the Lady Bulldogs and they took set four 25-15 to claim the match 3-1.
Carolyne Edwards led for players in double digits kills with 18 kills. Taylor Kangethe followed with 12 kills and Megan Besecker and Kristin Rice had 11 kills apiece. Alexandra Jwainat led the defense with 12 digs followed by Kayla Cole's 11 digs. Jwainat also had 17 asssists.
In game two of the opening day, the Lady Bulldogs faced off against conference foe and tournament host Philander Smith. The Lady Bulldogs had no mercy on the Lady Panthers, defeating them in straight sets 25-14, 25-13, 25-20 for even the conference slate at 1-1 with a 2-5 overall record.
Carolyne Edwards and Kristin Rice paced the Lady Bulldogs with 6 kills apiece. Kalya Cole had 10 digs and Alexandra Jwainat had 7 assists. The Lady Bulldogs are set to take on Central Baptist and Williams Baptist to close out the PSC Classic on tomorrow. First whistle is set for 9:00 a.m.
