Three Lady Bulldogs Selected to All-Conference Team

Tougaloo, Miss-The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced its 2016 All-GCAC Volleyball teams on Friday. Tougaloo's Carolyne Edwards, Jessica Porter and Alexandra Jwainat were selected to this year's team.

Edwards, a sophomore outside hitter from Southaven, MS makes the 2nd team for the second consecutive season. This season, Edwards lead the Lady Bulldogs in kills with 166 kills. Edwards has been selected GCAC Attacker of the Week this season and she was selected All-Tournament Performer at the Edward Waters Fall Volleyball Classic. She has 71 digs this season.

Porter, a junior outside hitter from New Orleans, LA follows Edwards in kills with 132. She is also second on the team in digs with 192. Like Edwards, Porter too has been named GCAC Attacker of the Week. Porter is a transfer from Jefferson Davis Community College and was selected to the All-GCAC 2nd team.

Jwainat, a sophomore setter from Madison, MS leads the Lady Bulldogs in assists with 247 assists. This is her first all-conference selection as she is a 2nd team selection as well. Jwainat adds 35 kills and 54 digs.

This season, just two seniors earned All-GCAC recognition after having eight on the teams last season. Freshmen dominated, as six newcomers were selected. The roster is filled out by three sophomores and three juniors.

Talladega's Carla Novaes and Edwards are the only players to return from last season's All-Conference teams.

The GCAC Volleyball regular season will conclude this Monday with the 2016 GCAC Volleyball Tournament set to begin on Friday, Nov. 4, at Dillard University in New Orleans. The winner will recieve the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA Volleyball Championships that starts play on Nov. 19.

Individual awards will be announced at the Volleyball Awards banquet on Thursday, Nov. 3.
