Lady Bulldogs Open Conference Play With Big Win

Tougaloo, Miss. - The Lady Bulldogs opened conference play in good fashion; defeating the Lady Knights of Southern University of New Orleans 78-55 tonight in the Dawg Pound.

The Lady Bulldogs (6-7, 1-0) jumped out to an early 10-4 lead before the Lady Knights (2-6, 0-2) came storming back to cut a 1st quarter lead to 15-13. In the 2nd quarter, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Knights 25-20 to take a 40-33 halftime advantage. The Lady Bulldogs Bulldogs ran off in the 3rd quarter; holding the Lady Knights to only 8 points in the quarter to their 23 points. The Lady Knights tried to comback in the 4th quarter, but the damage was already done and the Lady Bulldogs held on to take take the 78-55 victory over the Lady Knights to open conference play. The Lady Bulldogs shot 42% from the field and 69% from the charity stripe. They also outrebounded the Lady Knights 44-30.

Montoria Atkinson led the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points and 14 rebounds for her 11th double double of the season. Melissa Creese was the only other Lady Bulldogs with double figure scoring with 19 points. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday as they host Xavier University. Game time is set for 3:00 P.M. in the Dawg Pound.
