CONCORDIA LADY HORNETS OUSTS TOUGALOO
Tougaloo, MS-The Lady Bulldogs suffered a loss to the hands of the Concordia College Lady Hornets 79-69, despite strong performances from Montoria Atkinson and Re'Yada Stinner.
Tougaloo entered the match riding the momentum of their previous win against Philander Smith on January 26th, however the same effort used to defeat the Lady Panthers was non existent throughout their match against Concordia.
Concordia College started the game with full court pressure and kept the same intensity on offense; scoring at will with fast breaks. The Lady Bulldogs responded well to the Lady Hornet's ball pressure but they struggled to find offensive rhythm and settled for tough jump shots throughout the 1st half. The Lady Bulldogs shot 1-10 from the 3PT line and went into the locker room down 38-29.
Concordia opened up the 2nd half by pushing their lead to double digits; with consecutive lay-ups from Gaybreil Garrett and the outside shooting of Lashay Lettingham. The Lady Bulldogs found an answer to their scoring issues in the "2-Man Game" between Montoria Atkinson and Re'Yada Stinner. However they never could come close to taking the lead, resulting in their 15th loss of the season.
Montoria Atkinson led all scores with 24 points and she grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs. Re'Yada Stinner added 23 points and 4 rebounds in the loss.
Concordia had 4 players to score double figures. Gaybreil Garrett posted a team high of 18 points and she added 7 rebounds in the win. Lashay Lettingham scored 14 points, Desiree Wilson had 10, and Erica Ousley paced the Lady Hornets with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.
The Lady Bulldogs will hit the road to take on Talladega College January 31st with tip-off scheduled for 3pm.
