Tougaloo, MS-The Tougaloo College Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams participated in the GCAC Cross Country Championship on this weekend. Both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs finished fourth of six teams. During the awards ceremony, the Men's & Women's All-Conference teams were announced. Tougaloo's Brianna Blunt made the women's all-conference team and Nicolos Jones made the men's all-conference team.
The members of the all-conference team in cross country are the top 10 runners who finish the championship meet. Blunt finished in 7th place in the 5k run with a time of 20:55.56, placing her on the team for the second consecutive year. Last season, Blunt made the team, finishing 8th of all runners. Also this season, Blunt was named GCAC Runner of the Week twice for her efforts in the meets she ran. Earlier in the season during the Watson Ford Invitational meet hosted by Mississippi College at Choctaw Trails, Blunt finished 13th out of 44 runners in the non-division category. The top 20 runners were recognized during the meet. Blunt has been a great asset to the team. Blunt is a senior from Jackson, MS.
Jones, a freshman from Itta Bena, MS, made the men's all-conference team, finishing 10th in the 8k run with a time of 30:50.54. Jones is the first runner to make the men's all-conference team in over seven years. Jones was also selected GCAC Runner of the Week twice this season for his efforts during the season. Jones is a transfer from Mississippi Valley State University who has been a tremendous help to the men's cross country program this season.
Because of their times and placement on the GCAC All-Conference Teams, both Blunt and Jones have qualified for the NAIA National Cross Country Championship on November 17, 2012 in Vancover, WA.
