BULLDOGS HOLD OFF WILDCATS IN INTENSE OVERTIME VICTORY
Tougaloo, Miss. - The Bulldogs opened its 2021-2022 season with an intense 73-70 overtime victory over Wiley College Saturday afternoon in the Dawg Pound.
The Bulldogs, coming off a 3-12 season in the spring, struck first with a jumper by Trajan Fielder. The Wildcats responded with a score and the first half went back and forth, but the Bulldogs went to the locker room with a 32-29 led. In the second half, the Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 32-29 to make it a tied game and force an overtime. In the overtime period, the Bulldogs dodged a scare en route to the 73-70 victory.
The Wildcats outrebounded the Bulldogs by two, 38-36, but the Bulldogs had a better showing from the field with a .448 mark compared to a .403 make by the Wildcats. The Bulldogs struggled from the charity stripe; shooting only .593 percent compared to the .833 percent by the Wildcats.
Cameron Copeland led the Bulldogs with 24 points in his debut as a Bulldog. Sebron Carter followed with 12 points and Trajan Fielder added 11 points for the Bulldogs. Carter was the lone player of both teams with double figure rebounding with 13 boards. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Laurel, Miss. to take on Southeastern Baptist College at 6 P.M.
