Earl Sanders

Bio

Coach Earl Sanders is entering his eleventh season as head coach of the Bulldog Baseball Team. Sanders, who is no stranger to Tougaloo Baseball, returned to the Bulldogs after serving as head coach from 2002-2007; having played a pivotal role in the re-establishment of Tougaloo Baseball. Before returning as head coach, Sanders served as the assistant coach for the Bulldogs, helping them to their best season before 2014. Serving as the pitching coach for the Bulldogs, Sanders played a vital role in the Bulldogs’ Rodney McKay receiving GCAC All-Conference for his outstanding season as a pitcher; the first time Tougaloo has had a player named to the All-Conference Team in baseball.

Sanders possesses impressive baseball credentials, as he was drafted in the 1^st round of the 1986 MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Sanders was drafted after only three seasons at Jackson State University. He also played for the Atlanta Braves organization and the Houston Astros organization. After a shoulder injury ended his career, Sanders returned to Mississippi, eventually finding his way to Tougaloo College. Sanders was inducted into the Jackson State University Hall of Fame in 2003 and returned to JSU to finish his degree. He graduated in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. Sanders is married to Mildred Sanders and they have three children; Thomas, Tonya, and Mia.
