Lady Bulldogs Rallies Back to Defeat Belhaven
Tougaloo, Miss. - The Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs hosted crosstown rival and former conference foe Belhaven University today in the Dawg Pound. The Lady Bulldogs rallied back to defeat the Lady Blazers 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 16-14) on senior day.
After falling 2-0 to the Lady Blazers and threatening a straight sets loss, the Lady Bulldogs huddled up and pulled it together to rally back and take the 3rd set 25-23 to keep the Lady Bulldogs alive. Still threatening a four set loss, the Lady Bulldogs once again pulled through to keep the match alive with a 25-20 4th set win to push the match into a deciding set. With the seniors playing in their final game in the Dawg Pound, the Lady Bulldogs prevailed over the Lady Blazers 16-14 in the final set to defeat the Lady Blazers for the the first time in the program's history.
Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Carolyne Edwards with 24 kills and 11 digs. Megan Besecker followed with 22 kills. Alexandra Jwainat posted a career-high 59 assists and 14 digs for the Lady Bulldogs. Leading the defense was libero Kayla Cole with 33 digs. Seniors Taylor Kangethe, Ashley Ruiz and Jessica Porter followed with 21 digs, 12 digs and 10 digs respectively. The win improved the Lady Bulldogs to 18-10 overall.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday as they close out the regular season on the road against Rust College. First whistle is set for 5:00 P.M.
