Bulldogs Open 2017 Campaign with Win over Rust
Tougaloo, Miss. - The Tougaloo College Bulldogs opened its 2017 campaign in great fashion with a 79-66 victory over Rust College tonight in the Dawg Pound.
The Bulldogs jumped out on the Bearcats early in the game and never looked back as they took a 44-30 halftime lead over the Bearcats. In the second half, the Bulldogs finished off the Bearcats easily to roll to a season opener win. Although the Bearcats shot 42.4% from the field compared to the Bulldogs' 40.8%, the Bulldogs shot 64.3% from the charity stripe compared to the Bearcats' 53.8%.
Leading the Bulldogs was junior Tonzell Handy with 19 points. Senior Carlo McDonald posted his first double double as a Bulldog with 18 points and 12 rebounds and veteran Denarius Odell rounded out double figure scorers with 17 points. The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday as they travel to Itta Bena, MS to take on Mississippi Valley State University in an exhibition contest. Tip-off is set for 4:00 P.M.
